Solo Podcast
In my solo project podcast I talk about experiences behind the scenes, YouTube »filmmaking« (which I prefer to call videography, because that sounds less fancy) and my learnings from publishing content on social media in general. The goal is to give an honest perspective on the life of a small creator, since there is already so much big-creator content out there, and I found myself in the situation that I can absolutely not relate to the »problems« of some 1.5 million follower influencer. So here’s my piece of mind in content to all of that stuff:
Audio & Video Episodes
#001: I hate Apple and YouTube »experts«
About my deep disgust for Apple products and scammy social media coaches on YouTube. I will rant about how much I despise Mac products quite a bit throughout my podcast, so you better come to the dark side–go Linux!
Audio only:
#002: How I edit everything 100% open source
Using open source software for editing is my passion. I could use proprietary software, but I am not willing to pollute my debian with some Windows virtual machine, and I’m also not willing for stuff that’s already out there and for free. In this episode I take you through my editing process step-by-step, like a tutorial.
Audio only:
#003: How to deal with crappy footage
What can you do to »repair« bad video or audio? Can you save it somehow? Sharing my tips and tricks on how to fix stuff in post–and what never to fix in post. Also telling you how to avoid to even have to revert to such tricks in the first place…
Audio only:
#004: Instagram is dead, but people are still doing follow-unfollow
Instagram has become one of the least attractive social media platforms. It is constantly degrading to more of a Facebook 2.0, and no longer relevant to creators, especially if you are also doing YouTube. Don’t waste your time on Instagram.
Audio only:
#005: What all successful content creators have in common
The one thing all successful YouTubers have in common is that they are mildly insane. In this podcast episode I am discussing luck, hard work and what else it takes to become successful from an analytical perspective.
Audio only:
#006: YouTube doesn’t care.
YouTube does certainly not care a lot about their small creators. You barely get reliable support. Yet they claim all your ad money, even if your channel is no longer monetized. This episode is all about the problematic aspects of YouTube as a platform.
Audio only:
#007: Follow-up on the YouTube demonetization saga, and my Linux video went viral
What happened after I got a really weird e-mail from YouTube about my channel being demonetized? Well… actually nothing. And to this day it’s not really clear what happened and why. This is a follow-up with all the tea.
Audio only:
#008: Programmer explains YouTube Algorithms
Explaining how YouTube picks up your video and how reward and penalty algorithms work.
Audio only:
#009: How to tell that your YouTube channel is doing okay
Are there indicators for how to tell if you will be successful on YouTube? This is especially interesting if you want to be a full-time content creator. And yes, there are some indicators that might suggest your channel is doing well when still small.
Audio only:
#010: Censorship on YouTube, TikTok and other platforms
Censorship is still an issue on YouTube. It impacts things like everyday language, monetization and trust in the platform. While most people probably say shit more than once a day, on YouTube, normal language is something that will be punished by less revenue.
Audio only:
#011: YouTube tells me to go viral once a month…
In this episode I am sharing my weekly YouTube roundup, which is basically a dumbed-down version of YouTube analytics. YouTube wants to motivate creators to make more viral videos, but sometimes their advice is really just not that helpful…
